Inspire. Educate. Empower.
Adams 14 will ensure access and opportunity to advanced academics and enrichment for gifted and talent pool students through systems of support, programming and advocacy. We will universally consider the identification of each student by providing access to challenging learning experiences documented in a learning portfolio, which will serve as a body of evidence.
The Gifted Education Program in Adams 14 is committed to identifying and serving gifted and talent pool learners. Each gifted student has an Advanced Learning Plan that contains an achievement goal to further develop the student’s strengths and an affective growth goal. Talent Pool students are students who are nearing but do not yet meet the state’s definition of giftedness. They receive gifted services to recognize and develop their strengths. Gifted Education is also committed to providing increased access and opportunity to critical thinking, enrichment, and advanced academics for Adams 14’s students.
The Exceptional Children’s Educational Act (ECEA) defines “gifted” children as: “Gifted and talented children” means those persons between the ages of five and twenty-one whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs. Children under five who are gifted may also be provided with early childhood special educational services. Gifted students include gifted students with disabilities (i.e. twice-exceptional) and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all socio-economic and ethnic, cultural populations. Gifted students are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior by virtue of any or a combination of these areas of giftedness:
