Adams 14 COVID-19 Response Dial | Red Zone Dec. 1, 2021

COVID-19 Dial Red Zone

Given the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the Adams County School District 14 (Adams 14), as well in the county and across the state, Adams 14 will be moving from the Yellow Zone to the Red Zone on the COVID-19 Response Dial effective Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. Moving to the Red Zone is an important step that requires additional safety measures to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19 while allowing for our students to participate in in-person learning.

While in the Red Zone, it is important to note that students will continue to learn in person. However, other activities will look different. The following are changes to current practice:

  • Staff meetings –  staff meetings are conducted virtually.
  • Elementary school specials – Specials teachers will travel to the classroom for class, using a cohort model. Or, school specials may operate virtually from the established art, music and physical education rooms, and students will participate from inside their homeroom.
  • Visitors – visitors will not be permitted during the school day.
  • Parent meetings – parent meetings, including IEP, 504, attendance, child find, etc., will be held virtually. For meetings that require in-person attendance, only one family member will be allowed to attend. If other family members wish to participate, they may do so virtually.

Extracurricular activities may still occur; however, it is important to note that all extracurricular activities are considered high-risk.

  • Athletics – indoor and contact sports will be evaluated, while outdoor athletics will continue in alignment with Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) guidelines. Face coverings are required for all athletes and spectators.
  • Events, such as sports, choir, band, etc., may be allowed with restrictions.
  • All events must have a sign-in sheet for contact tracing purposes.
  • All extracurricular activities participants must participate in weekly serial testing. Information on how to register for testing can be found on the COVID-19 Testing Information page.
  • Coaches and athletes must provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test administered within the last 24 to 48 hours prior to the event; a proctored rapid test is acceptable.
  • Vocal and theater participants must wear a mask while performing
  • For orchestra events that only have string and percussion instruments, players must be masked while performing.
  • For band/orchestra performances, students with wind instruments (brass and woodwind), 3-6 feet physical distance must be maintained; teachers should consider ordering bell covers.
  • Each athlete/performer is allowed only two spectators.
  • Spectators must provide proof of vaccination or a negative proctored COVID-19 test administered within the last 24 to 48 hours for admittance into the event.

We are instituting these changes to minimize risk, while still maintaining in-person learning for our students. More information about Adams 14’s response to COVID-19 may be found on the Adams 14 COVID-19 webpage.
