Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Information Regarding Student Vaccinations

We know you are thinking of all the things you need to do to make sure your student is ready for school. Getting vaccinated is an important part of their school readiness and keeps children from catching and spreading diseases that can make them sick and potentially disrupt in-person learning.

For more information, see the below documents from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Inclement Weather Protocols

Adams 14 understands that the decision to close schools, delay school start times, or dismiss students early due to inclement weather has a significant impact on our families. Thus, the district takes careful consideration when making a determination regarding our inclement weather options and is committed to informing families as early as possible.

Kids First Health Care

Each May, our country participates in Mental Health Awareness Month to raise awareness of mental health and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children, families, and communities. Adams 14 and Kids First Health Care support the integrated health and well-being of every student, staff member and family in our community. To highlight the services available to students, and to provide resources to families, we invite the community to participate in our Mental Health Awareness Month activities.

Keeping your child’s morning and evening routines consistent can help their sleep patterns, their behavior at school and their overall mental well-being! Below are some tips to help you throughout the day.

In the morning:

  • Wake at the same time – your child’s day will improve when their waking time is consistent each day. This allows for the rest of the morning’s activities to be completed without the additional stress of running behind schedule.
  • Create a checklist – help your child stay organized (and reduce stress) by creating a checklist of things they need to complete each morning, so they are prepared to learn each day once they arrive at school!
    • Wash face
    • Brush teeth
    • Comb hair
    • Get dressed
    • Grab backpack

In the evening:

  • Turn off electronics – have your child shut down their computer, tablet or phone at least one hour before bedtime. These personal electronic devices emit blue light, which floods your child’s brain, tricking it into thinking its daytime. As a result, your child’s brain suppresses melatonin production and works to stay awake.
  • Take a warm bath or shower – scientists have found that taking a warm bath or shower before bed helps to mimic a nighttime drop in body temperature, therefore preparing your child’s body for sleep.
  • Stretch, breathe and relax – gentle stretching and deep breathing exercises can help your child’s body focus on mindful relaxation to prepare for sleep.
  • Decide on a set bedtime – it is extremely important for your child to have a consistent bedtime. Your child’s brain follows a natural sleeping and waking cycle, which is how their brain begins winding down for sleep. It’s critical to create a consistent bedtime routine to help optimize your child’s transition from being asleep to awaking fresh the next morning.

For urgent concerns, call 988. This Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free, and confidential support. This May, Adams 14 and Kids First Health Care will celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, to raise awareness of mental well-being, and the importance of seeking professional help and support when needed!
