Dear Adams 14 community,
With January being School Board Recognition Month, I wanted to start by thanking my colleagues in the Adams 14 Board of Education who do such wonderful work for our students and their schools. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and I appreciate your expertise and insight as we work together to improve our diverse school district.
As a reminder, on Monday, Jan. 16, the country observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and there will be no classes in our district. I invite you to engage with your community and volunteer to serve others. By strengthening ties to our communities and one another, we can act on Dr. King’s legacy of social justice and equity.
Finally, I hope you can help us improve by giving valuable feedback in our community survey. Since my first day as superintendent of Adams 14, providing a supportive, safe, and inclusive educational environment has been my ultimate goal. This survey data will help the district and its partners better understand the needs of our community and how we can address them effectively.

Adams 14 and the School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP) are hosting their first Community Career EXPO at Adams City High School on Feb. 1, 2023. The event is open to students starting at 2 p.m. and for the general public at 3 p.m. Click here to view a flyer for more information.

Central Elementary School is hosting three workshops for the “Read With Me” program, which provides children ages 12 months to 8 years with a strong foundation for literacy by helping them develop early reading skills through quality interaction with adults. Each year in Colorado and across the country, students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who are learning the English language are given a test called the ACCESS for English Language Learners. The ACCESS test assesses the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills of our bilingual students. This particular test provides important information for parents, teachers, and school leaders about our bilingual students’ proficiency level as they acquire the English language.
These tests are required to be given in-person and the tests will be administered between Jan. 9 – Feb. 10. Schools have created their individual testing schedules within the testing window and will contact the families of students who will participate in the ACCESS test.

Adams 14 understands that the decision to close schools, delay school start times, or dismiss students early due to inclement weather has a significant impact on our families. Thus, the district takes careful consideration when making a determination regarding our inclement weather options and is committed to informing families as early as possible.
Adams 14 is now participating in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Test-to-Know program. This program can help slow COVID-19 transmission and reduce disruptions to in-person learning by making it easy for students to test at home.
The Test-to-Know program complements the COVID-19 School Screening Testing program; however, at this time, the district is not participating in the School Screening Testing program as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention no longer recommends routine screening testing in K-12 schools. Should guidance change or if there is an increase in COVID-19 cases, the district is prepared to move to the COVID-19 School Screening Testing program.
How the Test-to-Know program works
Adams 14 will provide over-the-counter (OTC) rapid antigen tests to students, teachers, staff, and volunteers for testing at home. These tests can be administered by parents, guardians, caregivers, or students away from the school setting. Test results may be reported using the state’s reporting portal. Schools must report any positive COVID-19 test results for OTC tests from parents, teachers, students, and school staff to the local public health agency.
In the case of an outbreak, we will alert parents, guardians, and other appropriate parties. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school health clerk. Thank you for helping keep our kids, school, and community safe!

For students who attend one of Adams 14’s secondary schools, you can call the school-based health center for appointments.
