A Message From Our Superintendent

Dear Adams 14 Community,

I hope you all are having an amazing summer! Summer is a great time to recharge our batteries and take some well-deserved rest. There are plenty of outdoor and indoor summer activities happening throughout our wonderful community, such as Music in the Park, hosted by the Commerce City Cultural Council. Families can enjoy live music performances from local bands and food from a variety of food trucks. On Thursday, July 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Veteran Memorial Park (6015 Forest Dr), the Chicano Heat Band will perform and on Thursday, July 28, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Turnberry Park (10725 Wheeling St.), the Quemando Salsa Band will perform.

With this week’s high outdoor temperatures, remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water! Hydration is important to maintaining good health. If families are looking for some respite from the heat, going for a swim at one of our local swimming pools may be a good solution: Paradice Island (5951 Monaco St.), Eagle Pointe Recreation Center (6060 E. Parkway Dr.), or  Bison Ridge Recreation Center (13905 E. 112th Ave.). Additionally, families can stay cool and visit Anythink Commerce City, which offers a variety of programs for learning, fun, and creativity for all ages. Visit the Anythink online calendar at events.anythinklibraries.org/events for upcoming programs.

Speaking of health, Kids First Health Care welcomed its first patients on June 21, 2022, to its new clinic located at the Community Resource Hub (7190 Colorado Blvd.), the former Adams County Human Services building. Its fourth-floor building space offers holistic care and a comprehensive integration of medical, mental, and dental health services. Community members can schedule a tour of its new clinic by contacting Kids First Health Care Fundraising and Communications Manager Breanna Deidel at bdeidel@kidsfirstco.org.

While it feels quiet without all of our students walking the school halls and in classrooms, my colleagues and I have been busy preparing for the 2022-2023 school year, including preparing Central Elementary School for building renovations (look for more details in the July 18 newsletter) and aligning our academic work with our partner TNTP to support schools as soon as everyone is back. Our Nutrition Services Department will be busy providing meals throughout the month of July, Monday through Thursday, at the following sites and times:

  • July 11-21, 2022: Central Elementary School from 12 to 1 p.m.
  • July 11-29, 2022: Suncor Boys & Girls Club from 12 to 12:30 p.m.

As you prepare for the 2022-2023 academic year, please make sure to check the school supply lists and attend the Adams 14 Back-to-School Resource Fair on July 23, 2022. We hope to see you there!

At your service,
Dr. Karla Loría
Adams 14 Superintendent

  • Face coverings are not required for athletics or extracurricular activities.
  • Consistent with applicable law, accommodations are available for students and staff, which are based on disability or medical condition.
  • Masks are no longer required on school buses, according to new guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Tri-County Health Department. Bus drivers will continue to have masks available if students wish to wear them.
  • Elementary specials classes will operate as usual, allowing students to travel to established art, music, and physical education.

The COVID-19 Response Dial and protocol takes into consideration the community COVID-19 vaccination rate, the Adams 14 employee and student COVID-19 vaccination rate, and our community COVID-19 transmission rate. All Chromebooks, iPads, and chargers that are not in use must be returned to your school’s front office staff. We appreciate your support!

New Kids First Health Care Community Clinic

After years of collecting community feedback, extensive planning, and arduous fundraising, the new Kids First Health Care clinic, located at the Community Resource Hub (7190 Colorado Blvd), welcomed its first patients on June 21, 2022. Its fourth-floor building space offers holistic care and a comprehensive integration of medical, mental, and dental health services.

“We carefully designed a state-of-the-art primary care clinic that includes medical and mental health care services; spacious, bright, and colorful exam rooms; beautiful murals; and interactive spaces that are both comfortable and convenient for our patients and their families,” explained Kids First Health Care Executive Director Whitney Gustin Connor. “Thanks to generous capital funders, Kids First purchased the fourth floor of the building because we want to show our unwavering commitment to local community members. We have been in Commerce City for 44 years, and we are here to stay to serve today’s children and generations to come.”

The new Kids First Health Care clinic is one of the many health and support services offered at Adams County’s first Community Resource Hub (the Hub). The Hub will house several collaborating agencies, such as Kids First Health Care, that are committed to addressing social determinants of health and promoting equitable health outcomes for all. The Hub occupies the former Adams County Human Services building, which is located near the 72nd Street N-Line Light Rail Station, multiple RTD bus stops, and within walking distance of two Adams 14 schools.

Connect with Kids First Health Care to schedule a tour, which will be offered the first Tuesday morning of each month. Email Kids First Health Care Fundraising and Communications Manager Breanna Deidel at bdeidel@kidsfirstco.org to schedule an upcoming First Tuesday Tour!
