Adams 14 Response to the State Board of Education’s Decision | May 10, 2022

Following its initial hearing last month, Superintendent Loria, members of the Adams 14 Board of Education, and senior district leaders today presented proposed turnaround and partnership plans to the Colorado State Board of Education.

Despite the fact that Adams 14 closely followed the guidance of the State Board and CDE officials to provide a detailed turnaround plan that met their expectations, the State Board today moved the goalposts and took the unexpected and capricious actions of voting to suspend district accreditation and explore potential district re-organization.

Both Superintendent Loria and the Adams 14 Board of Education strenuously object to both the actions taken today, as well as the manner in which they were conducted.   None of the decisions made today resulted in any positive contribution to the children of Adams 14.

This district intends to challenge this decision vigorously across all relevant avenues in order to seek its immediate reversal.  In the coming days and weeks, the district will convene informational meetings with all stakeholders to ensure they fully understand both what has occurred and how they can play an important role in remedying this injustice.

CDE’s guidance on the removal of the District’s accreditation is very clear:

  1. The accreditation impacted is the District’s accreditation.
  2. Each school remains accredited by Adams 14 local board – not by CDE and not by the State Board of Education.
  3. Student learning continues.
  4. Schools remain open.
  5. State and federal funding remain intact.
  6. Adams 14 School District, not CDE, awards high school diplomas to students.  Diplomas ARE NOT AFFECTED.
  7. High education opportunities for students ARE NOT AFFECTED.
  8. Scholarships for students ARE NOT AFFECTED.

All Adams 14 schools and the district as a whole continue to operate as usual.  This district will continue to play a vital role in the lives of Commerce City students and families for decades to come; today’s decision will not get in the way of that bright future.

In the meantime, all members of the Adams 14 community should feel free to reach out to communications@adams14.org with any specific questions they might have.

The Adams 14 Board of Education, Superintendent Loría, and the leadership of Adams 14 are committed to maintaining our strong focus on students and working together to support every member of the Adams 14 community.
